Veteran's Helping Hands Project is setting up a VETERAN'S SKILLED TRADES CENTER located just north of Hot Springs, South Dakota along Highway 385 along with housing for our trouble warfighters. The plan is to hire veterans from the VA's Drug and Alcohol Rehab Program and the Seventh Circuit Court "Veteran's Court/Probation office to build the homes under journeyman supervision in order to get the participating veterans new job skills to be used in life. We feel that this will allow the veterans to assimilate back into society with new found reasons for living. The goal is to give the veterans up to (3) new job skills, ie. Electrical, plumbing, welding, and construction industry skills, and we have already talked to Black Hills Homebuilders Association and the contractors in the area are waiting to hire these vets as soon as they have completed their rehab treatment program.
Our goal is to head off the veteran contemplating suicide before he gets to "the edge" & give them Hope and a Future so the veteran never reaches "the edge".
We haven't heard of another non-profit taking this route to help with the veteran MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES, AND PTSD. We are using WORK as the basis to keep the veteran's hands and mind occupied so If you are looking for a different way to help the vet and say "thank you for your service" this might be the way to help by donating towards building one of these homes
We will be posting monthly how many veterans we have helped get into housing.
The above will give you an idea of one of the models we have designed. This is a roomy 14' X 32' one bedroom model. Most Tiny homes for the vets are sized around 240 sq. ft. or 280 sq. ft. while our models start at 448 sq. ft., almost twice the size.
Some of the ideas to help are: Help build the walls to include the wrap and siding = $1,090.00
Help with the prefab rafters = $474.10
Doors and windows = $723.00
Vinyl flooring = $428.00
Roofing to include OSB, and shingles = $409.10
Interior wallboard (Hacienda) = $713.00
ceiling is 1X8X14' car siding = $376.00
Bathroom to include shower, sink, etc. = $710.00
Kitchen appliances, microwave, refrigerator, range = $689.00
Kitchen cabinets to include sink = $950.00
Whirlpool stackable washer/dryer = $2,000.00
If you can help with any one if these, we will let you know who is being placed in the house you helped with, along with pictures if the vet is willing.
This page will stay in an active mode of flux since, as things move on, things change and come more into focus allowing us to see the mission with more clarity.
We have settled on a name for the Tiny home project: VETERAN'S SKILLED TRADES CENTER
THIS PROJECT WHEN DONE WILL CONSIST OF A GREENHOUSE/GARDENS TO TEACH SKILLS, SAWMILL TO TEACH WORK ETHIC, PLUS A LARGE STEEL BUILDING (SKILLED TRADES CENTER) WHICH WILL HOUSE A LARGE KITCHEN TO TEACH CULINARY ARTS, MEAT MARKET TO TEACH SKILLS AND SELF-RELIANCE, AN AUTO MECHANICS AND WELDING SHOP, PLUS (6) CLASSROOMS FOR FURTHERING EDUCATION, AND A 4,800 SQUARE FOOT WORK AREA TO BUILD HOMES AND TRAIN VETERANS. WE WILL ALSO USE THE OPEN AREA FOR AN INCUBATOR CENTER FOR VETERANS WHO WANT TO START THEIR OWN BUSINESS. THIS PROJECT IS VERY AGGRESSIVE AND NEEDED DRASTICALLY TO SAVE OUR WARFIGHTERS WHO HAVE FALLEN THROUGH THE CRACKS OF OUR SOCIETY! THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF MONEY NEEDED TO BRING THIS PROJECT ONLINE IS JUST UNDER $4,000,000, AND WE ARE LOOKING FOR KIND HEARTED CITIZENS WHO HAVE A HEART FOR OUR WARFIGHTERS TO HELP THIS ONE-OF-A-KIND PROTOTYPE PROGRAM. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT WHEN VA SECRETARY WEILKE SAW THIS BUSINESS PLAN HE SAID "WE COULD BUILD THIS ANYWHERE COULDN'T WE"?
This project will be the prototype "Veteran's Skilled Trades Center" encompassing all aspects of Mental Health, PTSD counseling, and job skills training when it is rolled out. Our objective is to bring that work ethic, confidence, and self-reliance the veteran had in the service back, enabling the veteran to "reengage" into life. We are currently working with Mass. and Va. who want to be the next "Veteran's Skilled Trades Center" after we are built out and tested.
